Vinita Saraf, Founder Trustee

With a strong commitment to creating educated youths, from first generational learners, Vinita Saraf has designed high quality, cost effective and comprehensive services for the community using an eclectic approach tailored to the unique needs of every individual. She has worked on enhancing self esteem and social skills via education among the young adults in the largest slum area of Eastern India.
With a BSc Honors in Geography from Calcutta University, a Degree in Interior Design from Sheffield School of Design, New York, a Degree in both Spanish and German, she started her career as an Interior Designer. Later after having travelled extensively she started her own travel concern, ‘Creative Escapes’ and specialises in curating holidays with a difference for Women Groups. Along with these by attending conferences, reading and real life experiences of daily interaction with different communities she started Ek Tara.

Namrata Sureka, Founder Trustee

Ms. Namrata Sureka is the Founder Trustee of ‘Ek Tara’, an NGO facilitating 900 girls , children and women of the slum areas of Topsia & Tiljala in Kolkata, providing Education & Livelihood skills to empower them to be self sufficient. She is the Former President of ‘Ladies Study Group’, the ‘Ladies Wing’ of ‘Indian Chamber of Commerce’, with the objective of spreading awareness and knowledge through organising events on women empowerment. Her motto in life is to ‘Look Beyond and Be The Catalyst’.
She also has an avid interest in music, dance, theatre and the fine arts and considers culture and heritage to be an integral part of society.

Namrata Sureka, Founder Trustee

Ms. Namrata Sureka is the Founder Trustee of ‘Ek Tara’, an NGO facilitating 900 girls , children and women of the slum areas of Topsia & Tiljala in Kolkata, providing Education & Livelihood skills to empower them to be self sufficient. Office Staff

Manjusmita Bagchi, Associate Director

She has been at Ek Tara since 2012 and headed the Education Programmeme from the time of her joining. With a Masters in History and Archaeology from the UK, she came back wanting to work in the development sector. As the Associate Director, she currently looks into the overall functioning of the organisation along with focusing on fund raising for the organisation through various channels.

Anupriya Moitra, Executive Programme Manager

She has been an integral part of Ek Tara for the last 5 years and been a part of its growth since 2014. Her background in law enables her to work on the various policies of the Ek Tara along with various policies of the Ek Tara along with focusing on establishing networks with the Government and other organisations. She currently heads the social enterprise Ek Tara creates and as executive programme manager also looks into fundraising through CSR and Government grants and Ek Tara’s community engagement programme.

Sharbani Das, Executive Programme Manager

She has been with Ek Tara since it’s inception. She has a Masters in commerce and had worked previously in administrative positions in other organisations. As an executive programme manager, she is directly responsible for the nutrition, health and hygiene projects along with being the head of non academic development wing of the education programme.

Sudipto Chowdhury, Accounts Manager

He has been working with Ek Tara right from the beginning as the person in charge of accounts department and also looks into administrative aspects of the organisation.

Shuvasree Biswas, Associate Manager-Communications

She has joined Ek Tara in the year 2016 as a Project Assistant and looked into the Montessori Programmeme. With a Masters degree in Public Relations and Journalism she is the creative arm of Ek Tara. Currently, she is the Communication Manager of Ek Tara and looks into the branding and design. She is also responsible for a part of Education programme (School support and Mainstream, Non formal projects, ECA) along with Volunteer programmes.

Shreyosee Sen, Assistant Programme Manager

Education Programme – The former Teach for India fellow joined Ek tara in 2019. She is currently pursuing her PhD from the prestigious Jadavpur University. Shreyosee, currently, looks into academic quality control and developing curriculum.

Community Participants

Farheen, Assistant Supervisor ECA and Stocks

She was one of the few beneficiaries from the community who joined Ek Tara as a student in the very beginning. After completing class 9 form NIOS, she joined Ek Tara as an assistant teacher in Montessori and school support project. With continuous effort and dedication she has earned herself the position of assistant supervisor for ECA and stocks.

Saba, Community Mobilser/ Receptionist

Saba is responsible for attending all the calls coming into Ek Tara. She always schedules all the community meetings and also plays an integral role in the outreach programme. She also conducts regular health and hygiene classes for the children enrolled in the Primary section at Ek Tara.

Daraksha, Floor Supervisor

She was enrolled in Ek Tara as a student and soon after she was admitted under NIOS to complete her class X. Upon completion of the NIOS course she was appointed as a support teacher in the Montessori section. She is currently the floor supervisor of one of our education blocks. Her role includes supervision and monitoring of everyday activities and timely reporting to the department heads.

Razia, Nurse and Health Project supervisor

In the year 2014, she joined as a support staff and gradually become an assistant teacher in Montessori programme. While working in Ek Tara, she started taking training on nursing aid. Upon completion of the course she got the position of in house nurse in Ek Tara and the health project supervisor.

Marium, Assistant supervisor

Health and Hygiene Project- Along with Farheen and Gulafsha, Marium joined Ek Tara in 2011. Her journey in Ek Tara started as a student and now, she is the assistant supervisor in Health and Hygiene projects.

Gulafsha has joined Ek Tara in 2011 as a beneficiary under school support programme. She has come across as one of the most hardworking girls in Ek Tara. Over the years she has participated in a lot of workshop and training programmes through Ek Tara. After completing her training on photography, she is our in house photographer, along with that she also assist in supervising extracurricular activities.
